Katie Sturges, RMHCI

I'm a Registered Mental Health Counselor and the founder of Known & True Counseling & Psychotherapy.

I believe good therapy starts with something surprisingly simple: feeling genuinely understood.

My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can show up as you are—not where you have to perform, say the "right" thing, or arrive with everything figured out. We'll get curious about what's happening beneath the surface, notice patterns, make room for the complicated parts, and work toward a clearer understanding of yourself and what you need.

That belief is personal for me. My own first experiences with therapy came as a teenager following a traumatic experience, and they weren't particularly good ones. I often felt like I was being asked to do the work before anyone had taken the time to truly understand me. Years later, I experienced therapy built on genuine curiosity, safety, and connection—and it completely changed what I understood therapy could be.

Those experiences shaped the therapist I am today and, eventually, became part of the reason I created Known & True.

In our work together, you can expect warmth and compassion, but also honesty, curiosity, humor, and gentle challenge when it's helpful. I integrate evidence-based approaches into our work, but I don't believe therapy should feel like following a manual. You're a person first, and our work should reflect that.

A little about me outside the therapy room...

I'm originally from upstate New York and now call Florida home. I'm happiest near the water or outside in nature—both have always been grounding places for me. I'm also an animal lover and dog person, so there's a good chance you'll eventually hear a story about one of mine.

Like the people I work with, I'm a whole person outside of my professional role. I think there's something meaningful about bringing that humanity into the therapy room.

Because you shouldn't have to perform here.

You should get to simply be.
